What we promise, and what we do not

What this is

Cubelings rents you a private Minecraft server with an AI player in it called Cog. You describe things and it builds them. In survival it plays alongside you under the same rules you play by.

Right now it is a waitlist. Joining does not create an account, does not charge you anything, and does not oblige either of us to anything. The sections below about payment and accounts start applying when you actually have a world.

Who the account belongs to

An adult. You are responsible for who you whitelist into your world and for what they do there. That is the same responsibility you would have running the server yourself, and it is why the whitelist is on by default and your world is on no public list.

What you may not do with it

• Break the law with it, or use it to harass, harm or endanger anybody.
• Use it to build or distribute content that sexualises children, incites violence, or that would be illegal to host.
• Attack the service — the server, the agent, or the people running them.
• Resell access to a world as though it were your own hosting product.

If any of that happens we will suspend the world. For anything involving a child’s safety we will act immediately and without notice, and we will not agonise over it.

What Cog does, and what it will not do

Cog is a machine and says so whenever it is asked. It refuses to pretend to be a human being, and it refuses instructions from other people that would affect you without your say-so.

It is also going to get things wrong. It has built a thirty-block cat when asked for a small one, and it has flattened ground that somebody wanted. Everything it changes is recorded and can be put back, which is the honest answer to that rather than a promise it will never happen.

You own what gets built in your world. We claim nothing over it. We may ask separately if we would like to film something for the website; asking is the point of that sentence.

Paying, when there is something to pay for

Prices are shown on the pricing page in US dollars. When billing starts it will be monthly, in advance, and you will be able to cancel from your account without emailing anybody or sitting through a retention flow.

If you cancel, your world stays available until the end of the period you paid for. Ask us for a copy of it and you will get one — it is your world, and it is a file.

What we are actually promising

That we will run the thing carefully and tell you the truth about it. Not that it will never be down: it is software on a computer, Minecraft updates break things, and one day something will go wrong at an inconvenient moment.

So the service is provided as it is, without a warranty that it will be uninterrupted or free of faults. Where the law lets us limit what we owe you if something goes wrong, we limit it to what you have paid us in the previous twelve months. Where the law does not let us limit it — and in several countries, including Australia, it does not — we do not try to.

Ending it

You can stop whenever you like. We can stop if you do the things in “what you may not do”, or if we shut the service down — in which case you get reasonable notice, a copy of your world, and a refund of anything you have paid for time you will not get.

The boring but necessary parts

Minecraft is not ours. Cubelings is an independent service. It is not an official Minecraft product, and it is not approved by or associated with Mojang or Microsoft. You need your own Minecraft account to play, and Mojang’s rules apply to you as they always did.

Changes. If these terms change, the date at the top moves. If a change actually affects you — price, what you may do, what we owe you — we will email you rather than editing the page and hoping.

Where this is governed. Victoria, Australia. That does not take away consumer rights you have where you live.
